All right, everybody. Thank you for joining me for another Freelancer masterclass. Remember, our sponsor today is brought to you by covid.ai. You’ve heard me mention them a few times in the past, they provide portable benefits for gig workers like paid time off sick leave 24, seven health service, all that great stuff, legal protection, all the stuff you want, like big corporate benefits, but for freelancers, so go check them out. Today’s topic is how do I freelance when I’m employed, so most people freelance while they’re employed by another company, either part time or full time. That’s why freelancing is mostly called side hustling. So I’m going to give you some tips. If you do a full time job and you want to make some extra money, supplement your income. These tips I’m about to tell you are going to help you achieve your goals. First thing absolutely crucial. You have to make a schedule, you have to live and die by a calendar, many of you use Google Calendar, that’s fine. Whatever calendar you use, you have to abide by it, it’s more than just entering information in the calendar, you actually have to live by the notifications and emails that you get from that calendar. They Trump anything else for that time period that is slotted, it’s too easy to get distracted nowadays with emails and Instagram and whatnot, or whatever your distraction of choice, okay. So make a schedule and live by once you do that, you’re able to set goals, which is the next tip I have for you, if you set a goal, you have some focus, it’s like, believe it or not, you have a goal every time you get in a car, it’s to drive somewhere, rarely, if ever do you get in the in the car just to drive around, alright, you have a goal to get to your destination, much like you have a goal to get to maybe a revenue destination or particular client count destination, like you want to have six clients or 10 clients, right? So have your goal set them yearly. All right. And it’s important that you know, when you get off of work, have some downtime, don’t just race to another, you know, to another job, which is your freelancing gigs. Okay? It really depends on the flow of your your brain and your body. It’s understand when you need breaks and just abide by them. Because if, if you’re in some downtime after work, you typically like to have a snack, maybe watch a TV show or two. That’s okay. You just have to understand when your uptime and downtime is with your body. Because if you start working, when you’re supposed to have downtime, you’re going to start to resent your work. You don’t want to do that. That’s the main reason why authors have problems finishing books. A lot of people will start them when they’re all jazzed up and they got this great idea. But then they feel like it’s a chore to write it and finish it. Just understand what your rhythm is your flow. You might have heard me in the past on my YouTube channel called talk about neuroplasticity, it’s all about understanding what parts of the of your day are you zoned for work. So just start recognizing when those work zones are you’ll find that you have a pattern during the day. I myself don’t like to have meetings during the morning because that’s my zone time I realize I get better focus in the morning. So I knock out client work. So figure out when the best time for you is to knock out client work. Okay. Also, if you’re side hustling, you want to commit some time on the weekends. I’m sorry, but you have to do it. If you work full time, 40 hours a week, you probably have an eight to five. When you get back, you know there’s not a lot of time for yourself to do client work. You probably got kids you’ve got a spouse, wife or husband right probably got to make some dinner. So there goes your evening, right? So you have to make room on the weekends I would write on your calendar. You know, maybe after getting up on the weekend, having some coffee a nice breakfast, that would be your two or three hour block where you would side hustle and get some work. Some client work done. Okay.

Stay focused. That’s it. My second last tip for you is use that Pomodoro Technique if you’re not familiar with that they use the Pomodoro technique uses different Sprint’s of work with rest periods I use it. So I will be working intensely for 20 minutes. That means no cell phone, no email checks, nothing, you’re just not going to work. And then for that 20 minute period, then you go to five minute break. You do that repetition four times. Then you go on a 30 minute break. Okay, and then as you get good enough, you’re focused last longer than 20 minutes. you bumped that rep up to 25 then 35 and 45 with the same break count. Okay? Understand the patterns in your brain be aware of Your focus and when you get distracted not only the cyclical flow throughout the day, but cyclical flows throughout minute parts of the hour like 20 minutes Sprint’s 25 minutes Sprint’s, okay and the last tip I have for you is reward yourself, you know side hustling isn’t easy. So be sure to make a goal like the reason why you’re side hustling is to go on that big international trip you’ve been aiming for. Right? So you have a goal of making, I don’t know, $10,000 extra a year. And that is the reward after you make that $10,000 you can afford that trip. So always have a reward a light at the end of the tunnel, if you will. So you’re doing this for a reason. Maybe you’re doing this for mortgage money, maybe you’re maybe you can afford a little bit bigger house because you can rely on some side income from hustling. Alright, so those are my tips on how to freelance when you’re employed. Good luck.
